Did you know that porcelain veneers are done in the laboratory by a dental technician?

APPOINTMENT #1

  1. You make an appointment with a cosmetic dentist.
  2. Preliminary impressions of your teeth are taken along with number of other records necessary to communicate with the laboratory.
  3. All of the above records are assessed by your dentist at this time and a comprehensive treatment plan for your smile is created.
  4. Next, all of the records are shipped to the laboratory along with a prescription and your preoperative photographs.
  5. In the laboratory, casts of your teeth are made out of a dental stone and installed in a special machine called articulator.

  6. Subsequently, all of the photos and other records are reviewed and a diagnostic wax-up is created.
  7. All of the above, along with matrixes of the diagnostic wax-up are sent back to your dentist’s office.

APPOINTMENT #2

  1. At this time, your second appointment is scheduled where your teeth are prepared by your dentist and a set of final impressions is usually taken.
  2. During the same appointment, a set of temporary teeth is made out of a plastic like material utilizing the design of the diagnostic wax-up that came from the laboratory.
  3. Your final impressions are taken and shipped back to a dental laboratory where new molds of your prepared teeth are made and installed in an articulator.
  4. At this point, a ceramic technician creates your new enamel like veneers that fit precisely your prepared teeth and it takes approximately an entire day of labor to make 2-3 high quality veneers.

APPOINTMENT #3

  1. This is the day where your dentist will take off your plastic temporary veneers and bond your new porcelain veneers to your teeth permanently and you will go home with your new beautiful smile!
